Drew Zingg – Drew Zingg

Image_02Despite touring as a sideman with Steely Dan, Boz Scaggs and, more recently, with The Dukes of September, guitarist Drew Zingg has kept a relatively low profile, but this debut will alert many to his considerable talent. Surrounded by an A-list band, Zingg offers seven instrumental and five vocal tracks, firing off liquid solos and providing impeccable rhythm guitar with ease. The production is immaculate, with Vinnie Colaiuta’s drums sounding wonderful from the opening of Steely Dan’s unreleased composition ‘Megashine City’, to the closing shuffle ‘Highway 86’.  Other highlights include a soulful take on The Commodores ‘Easy’, Walker Petit’s brooding ‘The Black Dog’, and Don Grolnick’s ‘Cactus’ on a superbly crafted and polished album.
